How long does it take to build immunity?

The vaccination campaign continues at an accelerated paceThe faster a large number of the population is vaccinated with the recommended doses, the faster we can return to the old normality. And at the same time avoid the emergence of new mutations that could jeopardize the efficacy of current vaccines.

Immunity time

The Pfizer vaccine is one of the most used in Spain in the vaccination process and also the ones that generate immunity faster. Importantly, in vaccines that require more than one dose (the majority), the immunity process is complete after several days of the application of the second dose. This immunity process is not the same in all vaccines.

In the case of Pfizer, the immunity process is completed in a short period of time. In fact, it is the fastest. After 7 days of applying the vaccine, the body generates the highest level of immunization.

But how long does the immunization process take for the other most commonly used vaccines? In the case of AstraZeneca and Moderna, the immunity process is achieved after 14 days from the application of the second dose. This time increases in the case of the Janssen vaccine, which requires more than 14 days, although it is important to note that Janssen is a single dose, unlike Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca that require two doses to complete the process of immunity.

Coronavirus

immunity?Combined vaccines

Some people have received combination vaccines, this means that the first dose was, for example, from AstraZeneca and the second from Pfizer. In these cases, the time of immunity is defined by the brand of the second vaccine.

If the second dose was Pfizer, immunity is achieved after 7 days of application, while, if it is AstraZeneza or Moderna, it is achieved after 14 days. Although it is important to continue taking care of yourself after the vaccination, It is essential not to reduce the care until after the indicated days to achieve a complete immunity process.

On the other hand, people who have had coronavirus in the last six months should only receive one dose of Pfizer, AstraZeneca or Moderna and wait for the same immunization time, 7 or 14 days, depending on the vaccine supplied. Notably, people who have recently had COVID19 are not vaccinated with Janssen.

Remember to continue caring for yourself after administration, at least until much of the population is fully immunized.
